HOMEWORK:

Most homework will involve the completion of assignments.   In general, if work is sent home, it has already been explained, or something similar has been tackled in class.   When preparing for math tests, students should rework (in writing) the examples that they have previously done.   Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts need to be memorized.   All students should read aloud in French for at least 10 minutes each day.

Please try and encourage independence at homework time.   When doing tests in class, students must read instructions on their own, and then follow through with solutions to the problems, again, on their own.

Tests and assignments are marked in a timely fashion and returned promptly.   Homework is given regularly, and daily reading is an expectation that should be met throughout the school year.   Please check regularly with your child for test and assignment results.   Each student should have a duotang or binder for Math worksheets (class and homework), and another one for Math tests that require signature.   Science and Social Studies marks are available once the unit has been completed.   In French language and reading, I suggest that you check your child’s Mille Images duotang to get a good idea of their progress.   Be aware of penmanship, quantity of errors, and successive repeats of the same assignment.   (Does your child’s performance improve with each repeat?)

During the first term, I will take the time to check that you have signed your child’s tests and assignments.   This is a very time-consuming affair which I will not continue after Christmas.   Parents, you are expected to check your child’s agenda for homework, notes, etc.   Your signature indicates that you have seen the day’s agenda, checked that homework is completed and that books, duotangs, writing tools, etc. have been returned by your child to their school bag ready for the next day’s work.

Please contact me IMMEDIATELY if you feel that homework or marked tests and assignments are missing.
